註釋There are no significant sex differences between male and female African-American officers in the use of Pittsburgh dialect features; the use of AAVE is, however, strongly correlated with African-American officers' policing style, with officers who are more street-oriented using a greater variety of features of AAVE, and using them more frequently. Among Euro-American officers, older female officers use most of the Pittsburgh dialect features less often than male officers do, but younger female officers use them as frequently as the male officers do. This work suggests women do adopt, as well as adapt, male officers' linguistic practices. It has implications for anyone interested in determining how women can be successfully integrated into a previously masculine workplace.
