This thesis provides insights into the influence of zeros, both minimum and nonminimum phase, upon the number, value, and nature of the extrema in the time domain step response of a scalar stable transfer function. Both continuous and discrete time systems are treated and simple examples are used to highlight the key ideas of the thesis.
