註釋
"Although tāniko has been the subject of several studies there has not hitherto been an account of the subject which places it in its social and historical background. Tāniko is an element of Maori material culture which is more important than may appear at first sight ; it is one which shows every sign of continuing in some form or other as an element of the unified New Zealand culture which must develop in a bi-racial community. THe coloured designs are attractive, they are adaptable to many modern purposes and they are sufficiently distinctive to provide New Zealanders, even in a small way, with an identifable art form which is not simply Western European at secondhand. From the Maori point of view the present upsurge of interest in tāniko, even though techniques may differ, is a healthy sign of a continuing sense of identity in the face of rapid social and economic changes." --FOREWARD.
