註釋
Of the many books available to the eager student of the old German script, this one is a pedagogical treasure. The introduction quickly comes to the point that church records are most commonly written in the Kurrent handwriting, so this is what the family researcher must be able to read. The two forms of the letter "s" are given special attention and a letter chart of lower case, upper case and a further development of the letter "s" are recommended for study. There follows an excellent example of a terrible English translation. Then the lessons begin. Assuming the letters have been mastered, single words are next. The first lesson is lower case only, the second nouns, i.e. all words start with upper case. The student is advised to cover the transcription and read the Kurrent repeatedly from any point on the pages of one lesson until a whole page can be read fluently. Words that are particularly difficult to read can be helped along by writing them down, the author advises. Sentences are next, followed by texts from literature and history. Very helpful is that the handwriting to this point is the same. The lessons conclude with original texts in the Kurrent handwriting of different people.
