Workshop on the Impacts of Land Clearing on the Hydrologic and Aquatic Resources of Boreal Forests in Alberta
註釋A workshop brought together a broad cross-section of representation from the various disciplines involved with ecological research and management of land and water applicable to the boreal mixedwood forest. A combination of plenary and discussion group sessions provided feedback on three areas of interest: the significance of land clearing on preserving the ecological integrity of the Peace/Athabasca/Slave River basin aquatic resources, the state of knowledge and research on boreal forest hydrologic and aquatic resources, and what should be done in future studies on land clearing. This report provides the text of the workshop presentations by the keynote speakers and a synthesis of the workshop discussions, with recommendations. Topics of presentations include the hydrologic impacts of land clearing, impacts of large-scale land clearing on water quality, hydrologic impacts of land clearing, impacts of large-scale land clearing, and the social and human issues associated with large-scale land clearing and development of boreal ecosystems.
