註釋For more than fifty years, I had no idea that my mother had carefully packed away all the letters she had received from my dad while he was serving in World War II. She meticulously bundled them together, ensuring the safety of this treasure during the rest of her lifetime, throughout several subsequent changes of residence. Not until after her death on May 10, 1996, did I discover the unmarked cardboard box on top shelf of one of her closets.
