The Importance of Hook and Bait Size for Catching Power and Length Selection in the Longline Fishery for Cod Gadus Morhua L. and Haddock Melanogrammus Aeglefinus L.
註釋While longline studies have concentrated on giving useful measures for catch per unit effort, very few studies have dealt with hook selectivity or the size of the bait. This thesis studies the importance of the various hook and bait sizes on catching efficiency and length selection in the longline fishery for cod and haddock, and evaluates different forms of experimental setups in longline fishing trials. Fishing trials at sea and direct observation of fish behaviour towards hooks and baits in the laboratory are used as the basis for the study.
