Today, the quiet campus suggests a stability and tranquillity that belie past struggles. Westminster's history stands unique among institutions of higher education because of Protestant efforts to educate and convert Mormons to values of mainstream America. Protestants believed Latter-day Saint doctrines, especially polygamy, challenged those values. Ironically, those efforts that led to the college's founding and long influenced its operation also threatened its early survival in Utah.
