A Critical Edition and Translation of Franz Theodor Csokor's European Trilogy
註釋Franz Theodor Csokor (1885-1969), an influential Viennese dramatist, brought continuity and unity to twentieth-century Austrian literature. His best known dramas are contained in the European Trilogy, which appears here for the first time in English translation. Occupied Territory (1930), 3 November 1918 (1936), and The Prodigal Son (1947) capture critical turning points of political, social, and psychological upheaval in the history of Central and Eastern Europe during the first half of the century. Nationalism, socialism, ethnicity, and fanaticism are explored in dramatic form and the issues that arise are as timely and crucial today as they were 50 years ago when the dramas first appeared.
