This report presents an overview of the type of research that has been conducted on river otters since 1977. The data were obtained from a mail survey using a questionnaire sent in May 1984 to the principal wildlife agency for each state (except Hawaii) and each Canadian province, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Cooperative Wildlife Research Units, and individuals involved with river otter research.
