This paper presents and examines the latest research on technology-mediated professional development (TMPD) programs for PK-12 teachers and school leaders. TMPD is defined as professional development that incorporates technology (e.g., computers, Web-based resources, or digital video) as a primary design, delivery, or support component. There are three general types of TMPD delivery formats: workshops, blended programs, and digital programs. TMPD has been shown to support teacher change and improvement, collaboration and community-building, and professional development reform efforts while offering the benefits of reduced teacher isolation and access to a broad range of resources. Because school leaders play a crucial role in the integration of technology into the curriculum, programs are being developed for administrators as well as teachers, such as Technology for Principals Leading Utah Schools (T-PLUS) and the Information Environment for School Leader Preparation (IESLP) program. General guidelines are provided for assessing TMPD programs.
