註釋This report compiles a selection of papers on seabirds of the Russian Far East, originally published in Russian. The first is a comprehensive review of previous research on seabirds in the region, which extends from the eastern Siberian Arctic coast around to the Kamchatka region and the Kuril Islands. The second sets the marine context with a description of the oceanography & climate of the region. The third paper focusses on the status, abundance, and distribution of the 40 breeding species; wherever possible, pertinent information is included on habitat requirements, breeding phenology, and success. Paper 4 discusses birds at sea, the annual migrations from the southern hemisphere, and migration from the interior of Asia. The fifth paper deals with fishery interactions and the scale of by-catch of seabirds, particularly near their breeding colonies. The last paper outlines the habitat preservation & wildlife management programs that affect seabird conservation in the Russian Far East.
