Molecular Genetics for the Production of New Varieties of the Forage Legume, White Clover
註釋Using cloned and characterised plant genes as probes (e.g. pea alcohol dehydrogenase gene and petunia RubisCo small subunit gene) homologous white clover cDNAs have been isolated and characterised. The white clover cDNAs are being used as a probe to screen a second gene 'library' so that the remainder of the gene, complete with its regulatory sequences, can also be isolated and characterised. Research is now focused on the isolation and characterisation of white clover genes that are expressed exclusively in either the roots or shoots of white clover. The regulatory sequences associated with these genes would then be attached to a foreign gene and the resulting chimaeris gene introduced into white clover. Expression of the introduced gene is either roots or shoots of white clover could thus be specified. [Authors' abstract].
