Richard Thayer was born 2 August 1562 in Thornbury, Gloucester, England. His son, Thomas (1596-1665), married Margery Wheeler 13 April 1618 in Thornbury. They had eight children. They emigrated and settled in Braintree, Massachusetts. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Massachusetts.
