註釋A biography of Calogero Marrone, born in 1889 in the Sicilian town of Favara. In 1931 he moved with his family to the North Italian city of Varese, where he worked at the municipality's Bureau of Statistics, becoming its head in 1937. After the Nazis entered the city in September 1943 Marrone saved the lives of hundreds of Jews and anti-fascist militants by providing them with false documents. In January 1944 he was betrayed by an informer and arrested by the Nazis. He was deported to Dachau, were he died in February 1945. Includes testimonies of relatives and acquaintances, documents, and photos.
