1857 और बिहार की पत्रकारिता: बिहार शुरू से ही विभिन्न आंदोलनों का केंद्र रहा है। 1857 के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में बिहार में लगभग आठ सौ लोगों को फाँसी पर चढ़ा दिया गया था। हजारों लोगों पर मुकदमा चलाया गया, सैकड़ों गाँव जलाए गए। इसमें शामिल विद्रोहियों की जमीन-जायदाद जब्त कर ली गई और उसे गद‍्दारों में बाँट दिया गया था।
वैसे तो बिहार में 1857 के महायुद्ध पर कई पुस्तकें उपलब्ध हैं, पर मो. जाकिर साहब की इस पुस्तक की विशेषता है कि उन्होंने 1857 के दौरान उर्दू पत्र-पत्रिकाओं में इस विद्रोह के बारे में जो कुछ लिखा गया, उसे सिलसिलेवार ढंग से संकलित किया है। किसी भी विद्रोह या आंदोलन को तब की उपलब्ध रपटों और खबरों का अध्ययन कर समझा जा सकता है। इसमें अखबार-ए-बिहार, दिल्ली उर्दू-अखबार, अखबार-अल-जफर, सादिक-अल-अखबार और नदीम के बिहार विशेषांक में प्रकाशित 1857 से संबंधित खबरों और लेखों को शामिल किया गया है।
सन् सत्तावन के विद्रोह के दो साल पहले पटना से ‘हरकारा’ प्रकाशित हुआ था और सन् 1856 में ‘अखबार-ए-बिहार’ प्रकाशित होने लगा था। लेखक ने उर्दू की पत्र-पत्रिकाओं का अध्ययन कर 1857 के गदर से जुड़ी सामग्रियों को रोचक तरीके से प्रस्तुत किया है। ऐसे में यह पुस्तक अधिक प्रामाणिक और उपयोगी बन गई है।
