The Tournament of the Lions
註釋The ideas that governed chivalry--honor, vassalage, brotherhood, piety and prowess--are the keys to understanding the problem presented in the Song of Roland. During a tournament in 1448, two young squires hear the story of Roland for the first time, and as each has his own abilities tested, he gains understanding of the Song, of the meaning of chivalry, and of his own character.
