註釋I chose to translate Bing Xin because, first of all, the best of her work was never before translated into English. Also I thought that her works, being written before, during, and after the World Wars, foreshadowed the repetition of certain historical trends. Thus, I did my part and toiled to translate the words of a woman whose life experiences and sentiments, I thought, held the key to understanding and demystifying the basis and evolution of ideological differences which, now more than ever, threaten to escalate into all out war.
