註釋This thesis is a critical analysis of the portrayal of women's images in the Marvel comic book film Spider-Man. The analysis was done using Laura Mulvey's theory of the male gaze. After examining the two lead female characters, Mary Jane Watson and Aunt May, it was concluded that woman was seen as image and the man was seen as the bearer of the look; woman as the passive object and man as the active participant. Therefore, audiences had to identify with the male gaze in this film. Stereotypical images of women persist in this film and were not challenged.
