Contains an incomplete manuscript (15 p.) written by Effinger entitled, 'Notes on the way by a California Adventurer (1849).' Much of the information contained here is duplicated in the letters. Also contains testimony for trial for Murder of Isaac Lucas (8 p.), 'The Territory of Upper California versus Isaac Lucas Trial for Murder Testimony', testimony against Isaac Lucas for the murder of an Indian, Iou de la Sug. Apparently Effinger acted as counselor at law, drawing up this document and leading the trial. Also includes miscellaneous business papers, receipts, contracts, indentures and Humboldt Land Plans.
