This research was undertaken to provide additional tools to evaluate the suitability of an on-street bicycle facility for both motorists and cyclists, especially as the tools apply to the approval or rejection of bicycle facility retrofits. The research also included a review of roadway design literature relevant to bicycle facility retrofits and an analysis of bicycle-car crash data from the Houston-Galveston Area Council for the years 1999-2001.
