When I first began examining laces and knittings of my hometown, I did not think I would find
enough material to fill two volumes. As I began visiting villages, I encountered more material
than I expected and I decided to prepare the second voulme about laces. Actually, I had
already gathered enough material for my book in the first years of my travels to Kadirli. I was
planning to work on weavings in my last visits. However, I found such laces in villages I visited
that I could not stay indifferent. Most of the laces I saw had both very interesting names and
shapes. This is how this second volume emerged.
I also saw once more that same materials were still in use in almost every region of Kadirli and
the skill and art was kept alive by being taught to young people by elder women. Sadly, I also
encountered many laces whose names were already forgotten. This came to me as a sign of the
end of an era.
