Colour Alteration, Thermal Maturity, and Burial Diagenesis in Fossil Foraminifers
註釋Thermal maturity studies are an integral part of sedimentary basin analysis and hydrocarbon exploration. This report introduces new methods for assessing thermal maturity, based on colour and mineralogical changes in foraminifers, microfossils that are biostratigraphically important elements in marine sedimentary sequences. The methods and techniques presented are based on studies conducted in the Beaufort-Mackenzie basin. The report establishes an index consisting of ten categories, called the foraminiferal coloration index (FCI). The study indicates the sensitivity of the FCI at different levels of maturation, the influence of pore fluids in overpressured zones on the retarding of the FCI, and the sensitivity of the FCI to heating rate. Mineral changes in tests of both agglutinated and calcareous benthic foraminifers are also explained.
