Automotive Mechanics is the only Australian textbook for VET students studying automotive mechanics. Written specifically for TAFE, the two volumes cover the principles, applications and general servicing requirements for passenger and light commercial vehicles and complements the popular CD-X CD-set used throughout all TAFEs and colleges. The 7th edition has been substantially revised inline with automotive industry changes, the new Training Package (AUR99) and the technological advances in vehicle manufacture and maintenance.
Volume 1 starts with an introduction to motor vehicles, including workshop practices and use of tools. It then covers engine operation; engine systems, manual transmissions, drives, running gear, suspension, steering and general maintenance requirements and concludes with electrical fundamentals and basic electrical systems.
Volume 2 covers engine construction overhaul; fuel and engine management; diesel engines, automatic transmissions; four-wheel drive; engine electrical systems; body electrics; plus a number of vehicle safety, security and convenience systems.
