A Glass Pipe and The Little Girl and Other Stories
註釋The colorful characters in this collection of nine short stories, each from the state of Kentucky, are living life the best they can, discovering themselves, and struggling to overcome the many obstacles life has thrown upon them. Many make choices-choices with great ramifications-as they walk along their journey. In the title story, young Gail struggles to understand her drug addicted mother and emotionally absent, distant, father. The choices her parents have made have molded her into a troubled young girl and in a moment of weakness, and curiosity, young Gail makes a decision that could determine the rest of her life. Many others, including, Essie Wilson in "Them Dumplings Was Too Greasy," Sallie Jane Phillips in "The Death of a Low Life," James Wilson in "The All-Knowing Eyes," and Michele Franklin in "What Will Never Be," each take matters into their own hands and call the shots in their own lives with disregard to consequence.
