Field Guide to the Detection and Control of Xerophthalmia
註釋Abstract: Xerophthalmia is a leading cause of child blindness, especially in developing countries where many cases are observed in malmourished individuals. Since needless loss of sight from xerophthalmia is preventable, practical field guide presents information on the detection, treatment and prevention of the disease for public health care workers and clinicians. Xerophthalmia is caused by vitamin A deficiency, although the mechanism of disease pathology is not yet clear. Topics cover vitamin A metabolism; clinical diagnosis; epidemiology; assessment of the problem; treatment; and prevention. Appendices describe how to examine eyes, obtain blood samples, and use clinical examination forms in the field.
