註釋George Sampson arrived in Brisbane in 1898 and was the city's organist and proponent of classical music. His 'Sampson's Orchestra', founded in 1907, became the basis for the Queensland State and Municipal Orchestra in 1924. He is considered the main driving force for the appreciation of classical music in Queensland in the first half of the twentieth century. An important address to the first gathering of music teachers in Queensland, designed to unify and co-ordinate teaching programs to improve admissions to the School of Music at the University of Queensland.
