Poems for America
註釋Poems for America was written during one of the most troubling times in modern politics. Cultural conflicts and manifestations of systemic racial divides still haunt America when the conditions present themselves. The year 2016 was layered with major dynamics that no one could have predicted. This confronted our society with such force that people reached boiling points that spilled over in violence, hatred of our neighbors and even death. This challenged the very moral fabric that has held America together for over 230 years. The rays of hope and the winds of courage that often won the day were covered by a thick cloud of smoke that burned in many of our cities and opposing winds created by leadership whose rhetoric did little, if anything, to calm our communities. Witnessing the effect of these conditions on America and Americans, author, poet and playwright, William Owens was compelled with a deep conviction to speak to these factions and injustices against ourselves and our neighbors through words imparted upon him by God. Words that would vigorously confront evil and inspire hope. From September 14, 2017 - November 8, 2017, Owens wrote a poem every day until 53 poems had captured these troubled time in American history. Owens' journey was deeply personal as he faced his own transition and convictions while allowing himself to understand the conviction of others. Remaining true to his core beliefs, Owens proves beyond doubt that the cry heard throughout this nation is a deep call for the resurgence of a return to God and faith in America. This is captured in the pages of this book that you now hold in your hands.
