Charlie Deegan has gone from a top Army marksman, to a drunk, to a prisoner in the Yuma Territorial Prison. He escapes and heads north to try and put his troubled past behind him. On the harsh Sonora desert, he evades a posse of trackers and moves on to discover a mummified miner with a life-saving hoard of supplies. On his journey, he fights El Loco Lobo's Mexican banditos, a band of Indians and a crooked sheriff. Charlie continues to have problems with alcohol but his luck turns when he befriends a cowboy, Creed McCall, who gets him a job on a north-bound cattle drive. Charlie is untested as a cowboy so he must start as the cook's helper. Will this simple task be as easy as it sounds?
