The Diary of a Prisoner of War
註釋Sergeant Peter Henry Blaskey, later named Blake, was a Lancaster bomber pilot and was shot down in 1942. He was interrogated and imprisoned in Camp 344, Stalag 8b, Lamsdorf. he remained a prisoner of war for over two years. He was then force marched over 600 miles across Europe by the Germans, during which he was mock executed as a punishment after searching for food. He endured sub zero temperatures and witnessed the deaths of hundreds of prisoners who starved or froze to death. He kept a diary for the first 10 months of his captivity that he carried with him on the long march and that is now published for the first time. Just before he died, Peter joined a pilgrimage, organised by the Royal British Legion, of former prisoners returning to Lamsdorf for the first time. You can watch a 30 minute documentary on YouTube about the journey - 'Archbishop Jonathan Blake - The Heroes Return'.
