Recalling Fiction's Cultural Context, Early Gothic and Utopian Romance
註釋This study locates texts in their relevant temporal and cultural periods to disclose levels of meaning which have been lost to present readers. For the 18th century, it examines not only little known genres such as the Gothic Fragment and the Utopian Satire, but also demonstrates that contemporary writers satirized the first and gothicized the second. Pitcher everywhere brings fresh insights and knowledge to illuminate obscure allusions in difficult texts.
